Registered Dietitian
Research Interests
I am interested in the intersection between musculoskeletal health, physical activity and sports nutrition, especially in the context of pregnancy, prenatal and postnatal life stages. Research has associated various types of physical exercise, especially high intensity levels, with biochemical changes in the body as well as increased longevity. During pregnancy, the body goes through dramatic changes as well, the dynamics of which are particularly interesting from a nutritional standpoint. The current literature provides a breadth of knowledge, yet there are numerous and crucial open problems, such as empirically deriving minimum and maximum exercise thresholds for different populations, particularly pregnant and postpartum women.
Of course, pregnancy and sports nutrition cannot be studied in isolation from other issues, such as chronic diseases related to poor nutrition (e.g., diabetes, obesity, certain cancers) and less common conditions such as infectious diseases. I am continuously expanding my knowledge on this broad set of issues, formulating concrete research questions and evolving my perspective.
